US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation during their last night’s telephone conversation (15 December 2021). “The two leaders discussed the importance of human rights and agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation and address shared global challenges,” a US state department release quoted its spokesperson Ned Price as saying.

“The Secretary reaffirmed our long-standing partnership with Bangladesh on development, economic growth, and security,” Price said on Wednesday. Last night, state minister for foreign affairs Md Shahriar Alam tweeted that on the eve of the 50th anniversary of the victory of Bangladesh, secretary Blinken and foreign minister Dr Momen spoke over the phone at length. Alam said that they agreed to increase engagement while celebrating 50 years of bilateral relations between Bangladesh and the USA. “Both renewed the resolve to take the relationship further forward,” Alam wrote on his Twitter account.
